Clash Of Clans Town Hall 18: Everything You Need To Know

With the end of Hammer Jam, the new Town Hall has arrived in Clash Of Clans. The Level 18 Town Hall not only brings upgrades to existing troops and buildings, it also comes with a completely new mechanic with the introduction of Guardians, brings a new merged defense and a new signature defense. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about the new Clash Of Clans Town Hall 18 Update.  

As the information is vast, here is a quick TLDR. For detailed information, you can jump to the relevant subhead using the table below: 

TLDR

  • TH18 is no longer a defense building. 
  • TH18 comes with a unique mechanic called Guardians. There are two and are upgraded using Builders. 
  • Comes with a new signature defense and spell which are not revealed yet.
  • The new troop is a buffed version of Meteor Golem, the Halloween event troop.
  • New crafted defense include Bell that buffs defending Heroes, building that spams bombs across the base and a tower that does more damage the closer someone is.
  • TH18 gets a new merged defense, Super Wizard tower which can chain up to 15 units. 
  • TH18 comes with upgrades for a bunch of existing defense, units and economy buildings. 
  • The new update nerfs the Minion Prince on defense while buffing an Archer Queen Equipment. 
  • Some troops are also buffed for TH17 including Electro Dragon, Super Minion and Dragon Rider. 

Town Hall 18 Upgrade Information

The upgrade to Town Hall 18 is only possible if your Town Hall 17’s Weapon is maxed out (Level 5). The cost and time for upgrade to TH18 are as follows:

With a massive upgrade time, I’d recommend using a Book of Building or even Everything on the Town Hall so you can instantly get into the new stuff even if you are not maxed out. 

All New Town Hall 18 Mechanic 

Once you upgrade the Town Hall, it will no longer be a defense building. This is because we are getting a new game play mechanic which involves units called Guardians. These troops are the new weapon, however they are not connected to the Town Hall itself. This means that the TH is not the big threat anymore, the guardians are. You can look at their stats, types and upgrades below:

A melee guardian, it has absurdly high health and massive splash damage. Although melee, it can still target air troops making it a big threat regardless of your attack strategy. Once killed, the Smasher drops a rage spell similar to a super valk. It also has an enraged mechanic which makes him do more damage if the Town Hall is destroyed. The stats and the upgrade costs are as follows: 

Note that both guardians are unlocked when you upgrade to Town Hall 18 as such the first level is free.

Longshot

Ranged alternative to the Smasher, it can target both air and ground units and does splash damage. The Longshot has a massive patrol range which makes him aggro troops from far away. This guardian does 3.5 tiles worth of death damage but does not have an enrage mechanic like Smasher does. Its stats and upgrade costs are as follows:

Spell and Troops Interactions With Guardians 

Couple of things to note about the Guardians: 

  • While they require builders to upgrade, they use Book Of Fighting instead of Book Of Building or Book Of Heroes. 
  • They are handled differently than Heroes, buildings and even troops when you are attacking and as such are affected by certain debuffs while ignoring the others. Here is a comprehensive list of all the debuffs you can use and how it affects the TH18 Guardians.

Poison LizardFor some reason, the Poison Lizard does work. The effectiveness depends on the level

Frosty (Pet)If Frosty attacks the Guardians, they will be slowed down.The mites are defense targeting and will ignore the Guardians.

TH18 gets a new signature defense called the Revenge Tower. It comes with a unique mechanic where it changes how the Tower works depending on the amount of buildings that have been destroyed. Here is a quick overview of this mechanic: 

  • 0 Buildings- Does nothing
  • 5 Buildings- Acts as a cannon that does 500 damage per shot. 
  • 20 Buildings- Acts as a ricochet cannon doing less damage but hitting two troops. It also attacks faster than the 5 buildings version making the overall DPS higher. 
  • 40 Buildings- Gets even faster and can chain two troops (total three troops).

Town Hall 18 is also getting a new troop in the form of Meteor Golem. These are the beefed up version of the troops from the Halloween event. The Meteor Golem will be available from TH17. Below are the stats and upgrade costs for Meteor Golem.

The Meteor Golem still perform their gimmick of breaking apart to climb walls. While tanky, they are not defense targeting making them slightly harder to use.

New Single Housing Spell- Totem

The new spell for TH18 in Clash of Clans is the Totem Spell. Its available from TH16 onward and comes with a unique taunt mechanic. Any building and troops in its range will attack the Totem, ignoring everything else. While the Totem is considered a troop, it does not activate spell towers, pull out CC troops and trigger any traps.

With Town Hall 18, we are getting a new merged defense which is the Super Wizard Tower. You require two Level 17 wizard towers to create one and you can make a total of two Super Wizard Towers. These new towers not only have more range, HP and DPS they also chain attacks, on up to 15 targets. The stats and upgrade costs are as follows:

Notes about Super Wizard Towers: 

  • While the range of the Super Wizard tower is 8 tiles, the range at which it chains is only 4 tiles. This means that the first target can be 8 tiles away to be targeted but every other target needs to be 4 tiles around the first target to be hit. The tiles are only counted from the first target and not every chained target.

Town Hall 18 New Crafted Defense

Town Hall 18 also comes with a new set of crafted defenses. Replacing the current defense are Hero Bell, Bomb Hive and Light Beam. Below is a detailed overview on their mechanics.

The new crafted defense for Town Hall 18, the Hero Bell is essentially a rage spell for your Heroes. This defense does not attack, however has infinite range and increases defending Heroes damage and HP depending on the level of upgrade. 

With the Hero Bell maxed out, your defending Heroes will have 35% HP and 35% Damage increase.

Bomb Hive

Similar to Flame Spinner, the bomb hive has a set pattern and will attack constantly even if there are no troops around. It has a cardinal pattern (like a + symbol) and one of the modules increases this to 20 tiles, which covers your entire base if placed in the center. 

Light Beam

The Light beam is a single target defense which does more damage the closer someone is. It has a 15 tile circular range and has modules to upgrade HP, damage per hit and attack speed.

Town Hall 18 Balance Changes 

The new Town Hall is also bringing some balance changes, most of them buffs and one small nerf to a hero. All the changes coming to TH18 are mentioned below: 

Unit Changes

  • Minion Prince- HP reduced by 1,000 but all the equipment now provides 500 HP extra. This nerfs the Minion Prince on defense. 
  • Giant Arrow- Damage has been increased for Level 18, from 1950 to 2000. 
  • Heal Spell- Duration Increased along with faster healing at max level

Miscellaneous changes

  • Donated spell limit for level 7 clans increased by 1. Clans with all perks can now donate 4 spells total. 
  • New star bonus, ranked battle loot and league loot for Town Hall 18. 
  • Resource Potions now cost 10 CWL medals instead of 5.
