Age Of Mythology: Retold Mission 5 Just Enough Rope Titan Walkthrough

AOM: Retold Mission 5 Titan Guide

Written By

This mission is extremely challenging and requires a significant amount of time to complete. If you have trouble clearing Age Of Mythology: Retold Mission 5 on Titan’s difficulty, here is an in-depth text and video guide.

TLDR:

  • Hydras.
  • Economy Macro- 10 Food, 2 Gold, 2 Wood. First put everyone on Gold to make the temple ASAP. All other villagers go to the temple. This spread will give you enough to train Hydras constantly.
  • You will face raids filled with infantry, colossi and petrobolos which will destroy your TC a bunch of times.
  • Wall off sections so they get funnelled right into your army.
  • After a couple of waves, you will face colossi and petrobolos, which will be hard to deal with at the start.
  • Once you get enough Hydras, push slowly and don’t overextend.
  • Your first target should be the temple; go for it even if the raid fails.
  • Mythic god recommendation – Hera for Lighting Storm
  • The win condition is to destroy all the enemy buildings.

Here is a detailed video guide for AOM Retold Mission 5:

Objectives:

Rescue Ajax

  • Defeat the cavalry attacking Ajax

Establish a Base and Defeat the Trojan Army

  • Bring Arkantos and your army to Ajax’s Town Center.
  • Build up a stronger army and destroy the Trojan forward military base.

Fail Condition

During the Rescue Ajax step- all troops die (highly unlikely) before reaching Ajax Town Center, afterwards, all troops and villagers died.

Step-by-step Guide:

General Tips:

  • You start in the Heroic age and thank god it’s Dionysus. The army recommendation (read requirement) is mass Hydra.
  • Your starting army can fight the first couple of waves under TC cover.
  • Economy is very important and the enemy will try to kill your villagers; move them down towards the ally TC. Put 10 on Food, 2 on wood and 1 on gold (excluding caravans) and everyone else on the temple. At the start put more on Gold for the temple and afterwards follow the above stated macro.
  • As I’ve said in other guides, counterattack once you fend off the wave.
  • There are farms right outside the top of your TC; while Arkantos tells you to capture them, don’t bother early on, as you will just get your villagers killed.
  • Once you get enough Hydras, it’s time to raid the enemy.
  • Counterattack and then rush for the temple while using Lightning Storm (Hera) once most of the AI infantry is dead. The enemy will not rebuild it and no Colossi waves will be very easy to deal with.
  • If your temple raid fails, just create more Hydras and go for another raid and it’ll be clear.

AOM: Retold Mission 5 Titan | In-Depth Tips:

Wall off this section
  • Auto-queue villagers; economy is very important. Wall off the section as shown in the image.
  • Position your Toxotoes right behind the wall to deal with any cavalry.
  • Hydras are absolutely necessary, so task more villagers on food and favour. My recommended macro is 10 on food, (hunt and herdable), 1 on gold (excluding caravans) and 2 on wood. The starting army should be able to deal with at least two raids as long as you fight them below the TC.

Rebuild TC if it falls
  • Once the Colossi raids begin, you might lose your TC a bunch of times. Always keep enough resources to rebuild it. I recommended a village centre to get more villagers out but position it away from the main TC, else it’ll be attacked almost instantly.
  • If your villagers are getting attacked by a small number of troops, shank them with the villagers; more often than not, they will win.
  • While defending raids, your Hydras will start growing heads. Try to keep the ones with more heads alive for longer.
Destroy this Fortress for easy map control
  • Map control is important; not only will you have more resources, but you can also save your TC from going down.
While this looks like an easy win, this ended up failing due to over extending
  • DO NOT OVEREXTEND. The mass of Hydras are very strong but they will fall very fast if you send them too far in. Patience is very important for the raids; I failed the mission multiple times because I pushed too far.
  • By this point you will have enough resources to keep the Hydras coming and can easily age up; I recommend Hera for the Lightning Storm god power.
  • Attacking the wall of the enemy will make them send a raid; just deal with it and push inwards, as the enemy will lack the forces to deal with you.

Lighting Storm and rush your Hydra to attack the temple and other production buildings
  • Go for a bunch of Petrobolos to snipe off towers, and once you see major dangers to Hydras dealt with, target fixate on the enemy temple and send all your Hydras on a suicide mission for it. REMEMBER to first deal with a raid to get enough time to build up your army again. Lightning Storm should be used as cover for your Hydras so they don’t die too quickly.
Fight raids near this treeline as the enemy will not go past it
  • Once that temple is down, the mission difficulty drops. Build up your army again and this time go for the kill. Best of luck.
